Motorola’s got a new, super-cheap Moto E Android smartphone

Nutshell:

Motorola has launched a new version of its decidedly budget Moto E smartphone and confirmed that the Moto G Play is headed to the UK.

More:

The new Moto E3 offers a 5-inch display, quad-core processor, 8-megapixel rear camera (and a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper for selfies). Motorola claims it can last a full day on its 2,800 mAh battery. It’ll go on sale in the UK from a number of retailers in September, costing £99. It also claims to be splashproof, but don’t confuse that with waterproof – it’s not the same thing.

The new Moto G Play is also headed to the UK, and will go on sale from £129 in mid-August, having already been announced for the US. It too is water-resistant.

Context:

The Moto E and G have never been flashy phones – but they are solid and reliable, offering a strong spec list for the price. At around the same cost as a Wileyfox Spark, it’ll be interesting to see how the two compare.
