The NRL satellite facility in Maryland, completed in 1967 and deactivated in 1993, served as the home for satellite tracking during the Vietnam war (providing imagery for special operations), data comms analysis and communications experiments.

In its heydey, it was comprised of a parabolic dish antenna, transmitters and low-noise receival systems, as well as a baracks and control room. Ultimately, high-tech as it once was, it never found an alternate use after 1993, aside of being used by climbers.

Demolition began in 2005 and was completed by 2008.
