500,000 ‘hoverboards’ finally recalled in US

Nutshell:

10 manufacturers of ‘hoverboards’ in the US have issued safety recalls for devices that total more than half a million units.

More:

The official recall has been slow to come, but anyone who reads any form of news probably knows that they’re a fire risk by now already. Why did it take the CPSC so long to issue the recall when Amazon and other retailers stopped selling them long ago? That’s the real question.

So long, in fact, that some are now coming back on sale.

Hoverboards. They don’t hover, and they do catch fire. The future isn’t what we were promised.
