Think your Sky Q remote is broken? Try this before you buy a new one

OK, it’s admission time: I spent this week under the illusion that my Sky Q remote had stopped working, having come second place in a battle with a toddler. There was one thing that bugged me though – the power button for the TV still worked even though nothing else did.

With no controller, and no way of changing channels or navigating via the box itself, that meant no Sky Q.

About three days later, having seen that a replacement remote retails officially for £40, I did a little more research and something entirely simple fixed my problem immediately. It just needed repairing with the box. I know, I know, it’s so obvious you’d have thought it was the first thing I tried but no one’s perfect.

So if you find yourself in a similar spot, before you rush out to get a new one, try holding down the 1 and 3 buttons simultaneously – if it works you’ll get an on-screen prompt to follow, and you’ll have just saved yourself £40.
