Gear VR is getting Xbox Wireless Controller support next month

Gear VR owners with an Xbox controller lying around will soon have a much more convenient way to control VR experiences.

Rollicking around in virtual lands is all well and good, but getting caught up in your very real controller cable is a sure-fire way to break the immersion in a flash. With support for Xbox’s Wireless Controller launching in October, that’ll soon be a thing of the past, plus you won’t need to buy a special controller just to use with your Gear VR if you already have one lying around at home.

It seems that the first game to support the controller will be Minecraft (no huge surprise there, given that Microsoft owns both Minecraft and Xbox) but other developers will need to specifically add support for it if they want to get in on the action too.

According to SamMobile, if you happen to be at Minecon 2016 on September 24 or 25 in California, you’ll get the chance to play the game using a wireless controller before the support’s rolled out more widely.

OK, it’s not the most exciting update in the world, but anything that helps keep you immersed is a step in the right direction for the more affordable end of the VR market.
