Nutshell:
Bitfinex, a Bitcoin trading exchange in Hong Kong has been hacked, losing nearly 120,000 Bitcoins worth somewhere around $72 million before the hack was made public.

Since announcing the hack, the value of the entire currency has taken a dive – those 120,000 Bitcoins would be worth around $65 million now. Trading was halted when the company realized what had happened.
Posting on Reddit, an employee of the company said that users couldn’t have done anything to prevent the losses and that “it does look like it’s on us.”
It’s by no means the only Bitcoin loss.
