Nutshell:
Starship Technologies has been testing its autonomous delivery drones in London, clocking up more than 5,000 miles in the process, and now it’s nearly ready to expand the trials in new locations in Europe and with more drones.
More:
The drones aren’t the kind you find in the sky – and right now they still need to be overseen by a human, which sort of negates part of the ‘automous’ bit for now. They do, however, drive independently.
Context:
Amazon kicked off a rush for drone deliveries with a tongue-in-cheek video, knowing that it would grab people’ imagination, if take years to achieve. Starship Technologies’ six-wheeled drone is a far less glamorous, but far more likely to succeed (in the short-term) due to the increase in focus on self-driving cars and fewer regulations.
