Facebook’s cracking down on clickbait: You’ll never believe what publishers did next

Nutshell:

Facebook has said that it will actively suppress stories that use misleading clickbait headlines.

More:

The tool was created by its editorial team reviewing “thousands” of headlines, according to the BBC, and was trained to identify and relegate headlines that fall under frequently seen clickbait formats – such as, ‘you’ll never guess why/what/where/who’ or stories that suggest someone said something outrageous, when in fact they didn’t.

It’s the second blow to publishers from Facebook in as many weeks – it previously said it was going to start prioritizing posts shared by friends in streams above those of brand pages.
